Beware the Clove!

Dirk and I are attempting to make a vegan, no-soy pumpkin pie. The filling tastes good except the cloves are way overboard (even though we followed a recipe.) My tongue has a sort of zesty, fresh feeling on it from those cloves. We also threw in a really ripe banana, which I personally think was a minor mistake. Dirk made a pie crust which struck me as very funny looking. He doesn't understand why I laughed at his pie crust, but I do.

We went to a Thai restaurant tonight and they had an appetizer special which they claimed was really good. The last statement on the little menu flyer thingie was something like, "But don't believe us! Try it for yourself and see!" I'm butchering it. But it was odd and somewhat funny.

We saw Borat last night. It was... STEEEEEEW-PID! So glad I wasted my money on that... I knew I wouldn't like it anyway because I've see Ali G and Borat TV and always found the guy annoying. Yes, I did laugh out loud on several occasions and I did want to see the movie that America is talking about. So it wasn't a total loss. I wouldn't actually recommend it to someone though. Dirk and my roommate weren't super impressed either. Mostly, I think it was so built up that we expected more. That's the way it goes though, right? The most memorable part for me was the naked wrestling scene. That dude was FAT. I could've lived with less poop jokes. I also thought it was weird that the movie had a script, yet we knew many of the scenes were unscripted and the actors didn't know they were actors. So suspension of disbelief became difficult.

Well, Dirk put the pie in the oven. I question whether it will actually bake, seeing as it has no eggs, nor even egg replacer in it. But this is an experiment so that we're ready for the big Thanksgiving Day.

Later.

I Love Mondays!

This is the third Monday in a row that Skye Xyan has reveled. There is something about biking to the "healthy" food store in crisp fall weather, seeing the farmer's market folks, bringing home their vegetables, cooking them and delivering remnants to the compost pile that is truly satisfying.

So far today I have:

Made a vegan chocolate "wet cake." (It's pretty good. It's full of sugar and soy though, so I'm hoping Dirk will take it to his house.)

Signed up for wind energy at https://www.windenrollment.com.

Decided that Dirk is right and I should vote. I read up on the ballot questions, but should read more about the candidates.

Downloaded my first 16 songs on iTunes. The biggest decision I had to make: Who's version of "The Rainbow Connection" should I choose? I chose Johnny Mathis'. I'm not sure I made the best decision. I also downloaded an all-instrumental version of it, which I really like. Then I went on to download my favorite Carpenters, Chicago, Billy Joel, REO Speedwagon and Elton John tunes. Yes, there were exactly 14 of them.

Now I am listening and singing along to my downloads. Be glad you're not here because I am singing loud. Current song: The Carpenters, "Close to You."

Yes, they "sprinkled moondust in your hair."

I am also going through that pile of papers that's been sitting on my desk for god knows how long.

Next baking project on deck: vegan pumpkin pie (Probably not going to happen today though.)
